Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information Slow Passage (slowpassage.co, “I”, “me”) collects when you visit or buy from this site, why, and what you can ask me to do with it.

Questions, requests or complaints about your information: hello@slowpassage.co.

What I collect

  • Device information, collected automatically through cookies, log files, web beacons, tags and pixels: browser version, IP address, time zone, cookie information, the pages and products you view, search terms and how you use the site. I use it to load the site properly and to understand how it's used.
  • Order information, collected from you: name, billing and shipping address, payment information, email address and phone number. I use it to take payment, ship your order, send confirmations and invoices, contact you, screen orders for fraud and, where you've agreed, tell you about new products.
  • Support information, collected from you when you get in touch: what you send me. I use it to help you.

Who I share it with

  • Shopify, which runs this store. Shopify's privacy policy.
  • My email marketing app, if you sign up for field notes or agree to marketing at checkout. You can unsubscribe from any email.
  • Advertising partners, described below.
  • Anyone I'm required to share it with by law, for example to answer a subpoena or search warrant, or to protect my rights.

Advertising

I use your information to show you ads I think you'll find relevant:

  • Meta pixel (Facebook and Instagram): shares information about your visits and purchases with Meta so I can measure and target ads.
  • Shopify Audiences: shares information about your use of the site, your purchases and the email address used for them with Shopify Audiences, which helps me show ads to people who may be interested, and through which other Shopify merchants may make offers you may be interested in.

You can opt out of targeted advertising through Facebook, Google, Bing and the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out portal. The Network Advertising Initiative explains how targeted ads work.

Lawful basis (EEA and UK)

If you're in the European Economic Area or the UK, I process your information on these bases: your consent; compliance with my legal obligations; to protect your vital interests; to perform a task in the public interest; and my legitimate interests, where they don't override your rights and freedoms.

How long I keep it

When you place an order, I keep your information for my records unless and until you ask me to erase it.

Automated decisions

Shopify uses limited automated decision-making to prevent fraud: temporarily blocking IP addresses linked to repeated failed transactions (for a few hours) and cards linked to those addresses (for a few days). It has no legal or similarly significant effect on you. If you're in the EEA or UK, you can object to decisions based solely on automated processing.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask to see the information I hold about you, take a copy, and have it corrected or deleted. Residents of the EEA and UK (GDPR) and California (CCPA) have these rights in law; Californians can also name an authorised agent. Email hello@slowpassage.co.

Your information may be processed in Ireland and then transferred to Canada and the United States for storage and processing. Shopify explains how those transfers comply with GDPR in its GDPR guide.

Cookies

Cookies are small files saved to your device. This site uses cookies the store needs to work (your bag, checkout, sign-in and privacy settings) and cookies for analytics and advertising. Shopify lists the cookies it sets. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some parts of the site may stop working, and blocking cookies may not stop all sharing with advertising partners (see Advertising above).

Do Not Track

There's no common standard for Do Not Track signals, so I don't change what I collect when your browser sends one.

Changes and complaints

I may update this policy when my practices or the law change. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, email me first. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the data protection authority where you live.
